Our Stay-cation
So a month ago we were supposed to join our international student friends on a weekend conference at Catalina Island. However the morning before we were set to leave, 3 out of the 4 of us woke up with scratchy throats and runny noses, so we decided...maybe next year. We were really sad to cancel out on this fun event in a gorgeous location. My hubby had already taken Friday afternoon off of work, so we decided to declare the weekend a "stay-cation." In case you've never heard of this term before, it actually does exist (at least on wikipedia...)
We turned off our cell phones, and took advantage of the fact that people already thought we were out of town. Since I also decided to take a break from cooking for the weekend (just like if I'd been out of town...) we instead got some take-out fine dining to have at home...
...and no stay-cation would be complete without hanging out by a heated pool either! (Yes, we actually heated the water for our little swimmer)
And our son got to open and assemble a remote control car with his Papa that has been waiting in his closet for just such a special occasion
It also happened to be the same weekend as the annual MCC sale, so while we weren't feeling well enough to hang out and socialize there all day, it is a bit of a tradition for us to go to the pancake breakfast... so we went, ate, and returned home to veg out on the couch.
All said, it wasn't that we did anything very exciting at home, but it was actually a gift to just have a weekend that we didn't expect ourselves to get anything done. We didn't have anywhere we HAD to be, no chores, no work projects, and did I mention, no expectations? We did a lot of resting and lying around (we were sick, after all), but I think God knew that was exactly what we needed. We enjoyed each other and our home. Why is it that we have to get sick sometimes before we slow down? Here's to our next stay-cation, hopefully one we can declare while we're healthy!
