All Aboard!

We celebrated our son's 2nd Birthday this past weekend, with a train theme. Actually, it wasn't that theme-y, I just needed an idea for the cake & invitations. Even though it was just immediate family, it ended up being 20 people at our house! We made adobo chicken for lunch, and I think everyone had a good time. My friend helped me construct a train cake, which my son loved.

The best part of the day was watching my son's excitement. Like his 1st birthday, I wasn't really expecting him to get what was going on. But he surprised me when he woke up on Sat. morning, saying the names of different people he was expecting to see, and he kept talking about his "To You" day. It was a special treat to have Sa-Pe & Sa-um drive into town the night before and get to spend the whole day and night with them. Each guest that arrived at our house, was greeted by our son, who excitedly announced who was here. He just beamed all day.

Opening the presents was equally fun to watch, not so much because of the gifts, but because of all the attention he was getting. For the first time, I watched him really "ham it up" for a crowd. Each present he opened, he tore all the paper, then looked at everyone, clapped his hands and yelled, "Yeay!" (to which everyone laughed hysterically) Which made him do it more. He even did a "hot dog" dance for everyone (a la mickey mouse clubhouse). It cracked us up, especially since our son tends to be more clingy and shy in groups. Of course, it helps that he knew and loves everyone in the crowd, but it surprised me nonetheless. The reaction of all the people he loves was more important than what the gift was.

It is hard to believe that our little boy is already 2 years old. He is growing and learning so much each day. We are so thankful that God brought him into our lives, and that we get to be a part of raising him.

Here are a few shots from our big celebration:
