Camping Trip

Last summer we took our son camping for the first time, and we were totally unprepared for the large amount of dirt and the small amount of sleep that we experienced. We left feeling exhausted and wondering if it was worth it to camp with a toddler.

But suckers that we are, we tried it again this past weekend. We went with the same family we camped with last year (they were willing to try it again with us!) and surprisingly, the weekend flew past and I found myself thinking that we should try to stay longer next time.

Our son was still covered in dirt from head to toe, but he slept fantastically both nights! As a result, we also slept well, and had a lot more energy to enjoy the days. This year we also really simplified our meals, and limited the number of activities we attempted.

Our friends have 3 girls, who are great buddies to our little guy. They all had a blast climbing rocks, swinging in the hammock, and roasting marshmallows. (there was a lot of dirt throwing as well!) We took a 2 mile hike down to a waterfall. The return uphill trip was more rigorous than we expected, but the time we spent playing at (& in) the water was worth it. Besides that, we mostly stayed and played at & around our campsite, which had some great boulders to climb.

Here are a few more shots from our trip:
Did I mention no showers at our campsite?

Yeah for camping! Was your hike down to Ella Falls? Glad you had a good time. Maybe we'll make it up with you one more weekend this summer!
