Basketball & Bath Beauties

So our family has spent most of February sick with some kind of virus, allergy with a skin infection now thrown in. It's not exactly what I want to photo-document. Although my husband did take a few shots of our sick baby looking quite pathetic:

In between the yuckies, we have had some fun. We've been taking advantage of the warmer weather and working in the yard, planting seeds for this summer's vegetable garden, and continuing with our pre-school playtimes with our neighbors.

Our son is starting to memorize some sight words and it's fun to hear him pointing out words that he sees as we're driving around town on signs or in other places. Our daughter is really developing socially and now that she can sit up and interact with the world, we can set her down almost anywhere with a few toys and she is happy. She loves to be around people and her little smile just makes me want to put everything aside and just grin at her for awhile. In the evenings, we've been turning on music and having family dance time. She gets so excited, flapping her arms and bouncing up and down. She also has this really cute way of twirling her wrists around when she wants to be picked up.

One evening my parents came over and my dad got excited about shooting the basketball around with our son. He got out our tools and lowered our basketball hoop to a toddler-friendly height. We found an adult-sized ball was too heavy for our son to shoot, so he practiced with a somewhat flat soccer ball. (he now has his own youth-sized basketball). At first he was so excited to go out and shoot hoops, but he gets discouraged easily when he misses a few shots. We'll see how long the novelty lasts! Basketball is the sport my husband most likes to play, so I hope that this will be an activity that they can enjoy together. (unfortunately, basketball is the sport Mama least likes to watch, but if my son gets into it, that might change...)

Here are a few shots:

After all that playing, you gotta have a good bath! Fortunately the tub is a happy place for our kids to be...
