Turning Two
Our little girl turned two years old this week! Her birthday was on Tuesday, so we decided to go out to dinner together our favorite Chinese restaurant to celebrate. As soon as Papa got off of work, he met us there, and we feasted on roast duck, chao mian and French-style filet (I know, a strange name for a Chinese beef dish, but that's what it's called. Furthermore, I have yet to see it anywhere besides in a Chinese restaurant). I threw together a birthday cake before we left (which the kids liberally decorated with sprinkles) and I brought it to the restaurant to let her blow out her candle & eat after the meal.
Last year for her first birthday we had a Chinese banquet with our extended family down in LA, and her auntie (Koko) had just returned home from living in China, and brought her a couple of outfits, called qi pao, for her to wear. The pink one fit her last her and she wore it at her first birthday banquet, but the more traditional red one was too big and we've been waiting for a special occasion to dress her in it.
Thankfully, it fits her now, and more importantly, she was very excited about dressing up in her special qi pao to go out to dinner. (She insisted on carrying this purse with her as well!) Before going in the restaurant, I wanted to take a photo of her in it, and she spontaneously bumped out her hip in this pose. She is definitely aware of her femininity and wanting to look pretty these days.
It is so hard to believe that our daughter is already two years old. Time has flown by so quickly. She really is a toddler, in every sense and becoming a little girl who speaks her mind and wants to be a part of everything. She has a wonderful sense of humor and is usually pretty easy-going and flexible. She does have a lot of emotions that she needs to express, and she also loves to talk, laugh & sing. She brings such a breath of fresh air to our family. For all of my insecurities about raising a daughter, I truly feel so blessed to have a little girl and I enjoy each day I get to spend with her. I look forward to seeing how she continues to grow and develop this next year. Especially with a new little sibling on the way, I think she will be a great little helper to me and hopefully grow in her compassion and nurturing tendencies (which she already has a lot of!) We love you, sweet girl. Happy Birthday!

After explaining to her that she was going to have to blow out her candle, she surprised us all by blowing it out immediately, instead of waiting for us to finish singing! |
