Sea World & Coronado

Now that we've been home a full week, I guess I'd better finish telling the story and posting photos from our trip...

After Legoland, we went to stay with my sis & her family in San Diego. Even after a full day of playing at Legoland, our son & his cousin still managed to stay up late talking away after we tucked them in bed. I guess it was pretty exciting getting to share a room (and a bunkbed!) for the first time. It was really nice to have relatives to stay with and be in a nice home, though. The kids were able to play a lot together and entertain themselves most of the time.

Friday morning we headed out for Sea World. Previous to this trip, my son and I had visited the library and checked out lots of books on sea animals, so he would be prepared for what he would be seeing there (yes, the teacher in me still comes out at times!). He was very excited to see the dolphins, but unfortunately the dolphin show was closed for construction. We still saw a couple of dolphins though, and lots of other sea animals. Our son especially enjoyed the shark exhibit, feeding the seals and touching the bat rays. Papa and Mama liked the Wild Arctic exhibit, which houses beluga whales and polar bears. The shows were fun too! Here are some photos of our "fishy faces"...

That evening everyone went right to sleep!

On Saturday we spent most of the day at Coronado Island on the beach. We had fun playing in the sand and water, even though we forgot the sand toys!

The weather was gorgeous, and it was very relaxing. We went to lunch at a Greek restaurant, and spent time just watching boats in the harbor (and eating ice cream too!). Tio Greg bought a kite for the kids to fly, which ended up being a huge hit with our son. The wind was perfect and he was able to run and fly it by himself.

Later that night, we went over to my other sister's apartment, which was fun since she just got married and we'd never been to her new place. The newlyweds put on a great dinner, using all of the new kitchen and dining things that they got for their wedding.

We left Sunday morning after church and started the long journey home. Truthfully, though, our son does travel really well. It helped that he napped for a couple of hours and that we had lots of VeggieTales music, Color Wonder pages, and books on CD to keep him entertained.

We were really thankful for the chance to getaway one last time as a family of 3. It is hard to imagine that we will have two kids on our next family vacation. I will always treasure and remember this trip as a special time we got to spend with our son before he becomes a big brother.
