Vacation All I Ever Wanted...

We decided to take a mini-family vacation to San Diego last weekend. I call it a mini-vacation, because it was just a 4 day trip and most of you should know by now that we tend to enjoy vacations that are longer and much further away (out of state or country preferably!) We're trying to save my husband's precious few vacation hours for when the baby arrives, so it had to be a shorter trip. But not to complain, San Diego is a worthy vacation destination and we had a great time.

Since this was our son's last family vacation in which he is the only child to take care of, we tried to make it a special one for him (even though he probably won't remember it, aside from photos). We went to Legoland the first day, Sea World the second day, and spent the third day on Coronado Island at the beach and hanging out.

On top of all that excitement, we stayed with one of my younger sisters (both live in SD) who has two daughters that my son loved playing with. He actually bunked with his older cousin, which was interesting since he's never shared a room before. They stayed up late talking the first night, but by the second and third nights, they were way too tired to do anything but sleep! It was fun for us to see how well the cousins played together, and to have them entertain each other so the adults could relax too!

However the first night we were in transit to San Diego and ended up staying in a hotel. This is probably one of my favorite memories of the trip, because our son was SO excited about sleeping in a hotel room. We got in late, and he didn't get tucked into bed until after 10pm. But before he fell asleep, as he lay in his enormous queen-sized bed in the dark he shared these thoughts with us:

"I've never lived in a hotel room before." "This is great." "This is a great hotel room." "This is nice." "This is a really cute little town."

We were totally holding in our laughter. He was so serious. We arrived in the dark, so all he knew of "the town" was the hotel lobby, elevator and our room. I guess he is easy to impress! He woke up at 5am the next morning, ready to go, but fortunately my husband was able to convince him to go back to sleep until 7am.

More details on Legoland and Sea World later...

So cute. Grace and Sarah love staying hotels. Their idea of a good time is checking in at the local Best Western for the night.
