Sometimes I can buy myself a little time by giving my kids pattern blocks to play with. At first I wanted my son to do patterning in a line (ABAB, ABBA, etc.) but as he's gotten a little older, he's gotten a lot more confident and creative in his patterns and designs. Here are some of his latest creations...

I love this last one. The teacher in me just can't resist the opportunity to introduce geometry terms...thankfully my son also enjoys learning the names of the different polygons. He proudly told his Papa that this one was a dodecagon! (well, the center part is anyway...)
