Only Child...

Another thing that I am trying to do before this new baby comes is to really enjoy and embrace the time I have left with our son being the only child. So far he is very excited and genuinely happy about "the baby in Mama's tummy." He kisses my tummy every morning when he wakes up and prays for the baby when he goes to sleep at night. All in all he is very understanding of the things I can't do for him right now because of my physical limitations. He is even already bringing items to me without being asked when he sees that it is difficult for me to reach down, etc. I hope that his enthusiasm and love continues even when he starts to get the reality of life with a newborn.

Even though we can't really go on any big trips, we are finding lots of fun things to do near home. Here are some photos from the things we've been up to in the last few weeks:

Going to a minor league baseball game in our town

Speaking of baseball (or should I say softball...) my husband joined our church's softball team for the first time. He played every Monday night for a couple of months, and then had a tournament at the end (which they won! Go team!) It was fun to go out and watch him play, and also to see our son get a little more excited about the sport. Here he is at home, practicing.

We are so blessed to have a great Mom's group through our church that plans fun activities for moms (& dads) and kids to do throughout the year. Our latest outing to was to an endangered cat haven, up in the foothills. It was so interesting, we got to get up close to all sorts of exotic cats that have been born and raised in captivity. The center is really involved with conservation and education too, so we learned a lot and felt good about supporting them too.

All the kiddos!

Another activity that our son has been enjoying lately is riding his new 2-wheel "big boy" bike. We gave it to him last month as a reward for some big boy behavior he was demonstrating. He was so excited to receive it (he'd been admiring it in the store for months) and we were pretty proud to watch him jump up on it and and take off. He was ready for it, and has quickly gotten used to having more speed than his tricycle allowed him. Of course, his bike has training wheels on it & it may be awhile before they come off. But I will say that our evening walks around the block have definitely become much faster with him on his new wheels...

And not to overlook the simple joys of life... just filling up our wading pool in the backyard is proving to be a very entertaining activity for our son. He is loving splashing in the water, bringing his bath toys in to throw around and sliding all around. Very relaxing for mom to sit back and watch too. As you can imagine, my tummy is slowing me down quite a bit these days and I treasure any chance I have to sit and rest.

Do you think a new baby brother or sister is going to slow this kid down at all???
