Just Us Christmas
Yes, it's over a week ago, but I have to blog about our Christmas experience. It will probably take a few posts, since our Christmas was quite spread out as well. It is always a trick to carve out some time for just "our family" (the 3 of us) during the holidays. We have large extended families, on both sides, and we usually travel during the holiday week as well, so we've tried to designate a morning or evening near Christmas day when it can just be the 3 of us to celebrate Christmas together. This is my favorite time.
Our son gave us quite a shock this year by knowing exactly how to open up his presents. As you may remember from last year, our little guy was pretty oblivious to the gifts until after they were opened. He didn't even really get into playing with the wrapping paper that much. So, I assumed that this year, we would need to hype him up, and teach him how to open gifts. But, NO, the first stocking gift that he pulled out to unwrap he looked at, turned over, and started ripping at the seam! Now, where did he learn that?
It really was priceless to see his expression when he saw what was under the wrapping paper. The most precious part of all, is that he was so excited with just a simple dollar store gift! His joy did not depend on quantity (or even quality, really). He was just happy to see something for him. I wish I could bottle up that joy, and keep it to bring out whenever I need a smile. I guess saving the photo on our blog is the next best thing.
